For example, the flowers that you would send to your immediate supervisor are far different than the cluster of flowers you would send to someone you have a romantic relationship with.

Generally speaking, you can give your supervisor neutral flowers such as carnations, tulips, lilies and even the mighty iris flower without sending the wrong message. It's important to avoid roses, since they almost always have a romantic connotation that you would want to avoid in a professional setting.

They are a very exotic part of the greater world of flowers, and it definitely sends a powerful message if you want to make sure that the person receiving the flowers really knows that you care about them.

Allergies are one of the biggest things that you will want to make sure that you watch out for when it comes to buying flowers as a gift for someone. Generally speaking, if you sense that they will be allergic, you may want to avoid giving them flowers. If you're not sure, try to remember if the person has had fresh-cut flowers given to them.

It's never a bad idea to ask, and there are plenty of great flowers that have a low pollen count -- poinsettia is a flower that is very popular around Christmas-time, and always seems to make a great gift. It's really up to you what set of flowers you choose.
